About us

ExtravaDance Studios was born in 2010 on a vision for a dance school where everyone felt they belonged – from students seeking fun, fitness and flexibility to those looking to build a professional dance career.

Since then, we’ve grown considerably in size and reputation. Our vibrant community is now home to hundreds of students and their families, and we’re renowned as a fun and inclusive place to learn while making lifelong friends.

We don’t just pride ourselves on building great relationships with every student and family – we thrive on it. Respect, kindness and teamwork are at the heart of everything we do, and our community is home to all ages, abilities, genders, shapes and sizes, united by a love of dance. We encourage our students not only to be their best but to help those around them reach their potential too, because together we shine brighter.

Meet our Principal, Amy Henson RAD R.T.S

Amy Henson brings to ExtravaDance Studios a lifelong love of dance and a commitment to inspiring the next generation of dancers, in all their forms.

Amy fell in love with dance as a shy four-year-old. Training extensively across all genres under renowned teachers, she completed her Royal Academy of Dance Examinations and embarked on a full-time professional career. After a back injury cut her dream short, she found her passion and purpose in teaching – and hasn’t looked back since.

She established ExtravaDance in Port Macquarie in 2010, seeing an unmet need for a dance school where everyone felt equal and valued – from once-weekly recreational dancers to aspiring professionals and students with additional needs. Today, her studio nurtures over 300 students per year in a warm and welcoming environment that feels far more like a family than a business.

Amy can usually be found in the studio and on the floor, getting to know everyone that makes up this incredible community. She has amassed two decades of dance education experience and is a certified instructor in Royal Academy of Dance, Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) and Ready Set Dance. Amy is also a qualified adjudicator, has completed a Certificate III in Ballet Teaching Studies, and is accredited in Acrobatic Arts Module 1.

Our instructors

At ExtravaDance, our passionate dance instructors are a vital part of our inclusive community. They love to watch our students grow and achieve, taking the time to get to know each individual and family, learn what draws them to dance, and empower them to achieve their dreams while having the time of their lives.

Our instructors are among the Hastings region’s most skilled and experienced, holding a wealth of current teaching qualifications including RAD classical ballet, acrobatic arts, Les Griffith Tap Dance Academy, and dance teaching and management. Our team also includes qualified adjudicators and progressive ballet technique coaches, and all teachers hold current first aid qualifications and Working with Children Checks.

Do you offer a free trial?

Absolutely. We offer a free trial class to every new student to ensure you love it and feel right at home in our studio from the very beginning. Contact us now to book your free class.

How do I enrol?

Students must complete an online enrolment form and will be able to participate in a class once the form has been accepted and processed by our office. Students will be allocated to the most suitable class level and age group. A waiting list place will be offered if the chosen class has reached maximum capacity.

How are class fees structured, and when are they payable?

Fees are payable on a per-term basis and vary depending on class type and the length of each term. Students receive a 5% discount if they take more than one class per week and a 10% discount for three or more classes per week. Discounts are also applied to annual enrolment fees when enrolling multiple children from the same family.
Contact our studio to learn more about current fees.

Do you accept Active and Creative Kids vouchers?

Yes, we do! Just email us your voucher or drop a printed copy to reception at our Port Macquarie studio, with your child’s name, voucher number and date of birth clearly shown. We will redeem it from Service NSW on your behalf and credit your account.

Do I need to wear a uniform?

Uniforms and footwear will vary based on the class and dance genre you are participating in. ExtravaDance uniforms and merchandise are available for purchase from the studio, while costumes for competitions, public performances and showcase events are hired from us. Get in touch to find out the dress requirements for the class you’d like to enrol in.

What happens if I need to miss a lesson?

Every dancer is essential to the whole class group and regular attendance ensures you get the most from your ExtravaDance experience. All lessons are paid for as part of term fees – this guarantees your place in the class – and are not refundable if you can’t attend. While makeup classes are offered to students in our preschool programs, we are unfortunately unable to offer makeup sessions for after-school classes.

Where can I find a copy of your studio policies covering enrolment, fees, attendance, uniform, and more?

You can download our 2024 Studio Policies and Procedures here.
